Mickie Wadsworth

Mickie Wadsworth is a composer, conductor, and educator based in Upstate New York. Mickie teaches private voice, piano, and composition lessons as well as group music lessons in songwriting and early childhood music education. As a singer Mickie specializes in contemporary music performance art. They frequently travel the country performing their own compositions as well as colleagues' repertoire at a variety of conferences and festivals. Their commissions as a composer include; Mount Marty University, Le Mars HighSchool Concert Band, the Buffalo Gay Men’s Chorus, and more. As an educator Mickie believes in tailoring curriculum to meet the individual needs of the student. They believe teaching students strong practice habits is crucial for musical success. Learning music is not a linear progression and the most rewarding part of teaching is helping students through the valleys so they can celebrate on the hills. Mickie believes that our musical journey can start at any age which is why their students range from pre-schoolers to older adults.

Outside of their career Mickie’s biggest life accomplishment is becoming an ADK 46er in August 2020 (someone who has hiked the 46 highest peaks in the adirondacks). Outside of music Mickie enjoys hiking, creating visual art, and hanging out with their cat Norma.

They received their B.M. in Music Composition from SUNY Fredonia, and an M.M. in Music Composition and an M.M. in Conducting (Wind Track) from Ohio University.
