Erin Dove
Erin is a native of South Glens Falls, NY. She holds degrees from SUNY Fredonia (BA Theater Arts) and Middlesex University, London (PGCE- Theater and Music Education). She is the current music teacher and drama director for Saint Mary’s Academy in Glens Falls, NY.
Erin began exploring the arts at a young age by participating in several children’s theater groups and eventually became a part of Lake George Youtheater under the direction of Mickey Luce.
After high school, Erin obtained a degree at SUNY Fredonia in Theater. She was given the PAC (Performance Arts Company) award for being involved (both on stage and as part of a variety of tech crews) in the highest number of productions during her four years. While enrolled at Fredonia, Erin did a semester abroad in London, England. It was there that Erin was able to expand her education in theater with Shakespearean Studies, Directing, and Stage Combat.
After graduating from Fredonia, Erin moved back to England and began several performance projects that included voice over work, small film projects, and commercials. Most notably, Erin was a performer for the London based group “ “Caburlesque” who were finalists on the TV program “Britain’s Got Talent” in 2008.
In England, Erin discovered that Drama (Theater Arts) was part of the required curriculum in secondary school. As a result, Erin applied for and was accepted onto a PGCE (Post Graduate Certification in Educational) course at Middlesex University, London under the teachings of Ken Taylor. This allowed her to become certified in teaching Music and Theater Arts during the 2010/2011 school year. She did several teaching placements throughout London that specialized in Music and/or Drama. This included The Bridge Academy in Hackney, London. Recently, The Bridge Academy was awarded the 2018 ISM/ISM Trust Gold Certificate in Music which is received by the top 60 schools in England. They were also the Winner of the 2016 Hackney Music Curriculum Mayor's Award and 2017 Mayor's Award for 'Excellence in Music Education Practice'.
Throughout that time, Erin missed her family and soon began to play with the idea of moving back to the States after almost a decade in London. One day, while back in Glens Falls on summer break, she ran into Mickey Luce (Lake George Youtheater) at a performance. Among other things, they discussed Saint Mary’s Academy (formerly SMSA) that was looking for a music teacher. Ironically, Erin’s mother had also suggested looking into the school. Erin ended up meeting the school's principal, Kate Fowler, who offered her the job.
Saint Mary’s Academy has a rich history in the arts that Erin was thrilled to become a part of. She has been able to insert the school choirs in several local events including, The Festival of Trees, The Christkindl Market, The Harlem Globetrotters (National Anthem), Adirondack Thunder Hockey (National Anthem) and more. She continued working with Mr. Luce as he directed and became the producer, performer, and sometimes music director for the SMSA Players, which combined local talent and fellow Youtheater Alumni, students at the school, and their families. She has also developed the music and theater departments at SMA to include a drama club, public speaking classes, select choir, and orchestra. Coming full circle, Mr. Luce directed The Arts Academy’s first production, Million Dollar Quartet, in November, 2023.
Erin has created, contributed to, and/or performed in several local projects as well. She was a part of On the Tiles, a Led Zeppelin Tribute Band created by Jonathan Newell, a coach for Rising Stars under The Wood Theater, and co-created Theater for Tots, a summer program for students age 4-14 that explores several areas of the Theater Arts including acting, set, lighting, music, dance, and directing, also out of The Wood Theater. Theater for Tots has been running for nine seasons!
The Arts Academy has been a longtime goal for Erin. Creating a facility that encompasses all areas of the performing arts within our community is something she feels a true passion for. She is so grateful to the Saint Mary’s family for allowing this dream to finally take shape and flourish!
